What is 3D printing? 3D printing is getting a 3-dimensional digital file from a computer and manufacturing it through a capable 3D printing machine.
How long does it take for an item to complete on the 3D printers? Depending on the file it can take anywhere from 60 minutes to a few days to come to completion.
What materials and colors does the library have to offer? BPL only offers PLA Filament for 3D Printing BPL has the following colors to choose from: i. Black ii. White iii. Purple iv. Space Nebula
Can staff design or help me design my idea instead of getting the files from an online source? We are unable to provide one-on-one design service at the library. The Brownsville Public Library has a variety of information from different online sources to help get you started. Please look over our 3D Printing Resources tab located on the site.
Is there a cost associated with my 3D print? The Library charges $0.15 per gram for ALL colors and projects (keep this in mind when printing larger objects.) Patrons will be notified of object cost before it is sent to print and will only be charged once staff is given the final confirmation from the patron.
How long does it take for me to receive the completed print? Depending on object size and print status, it can take anywhere from 60 min to a few days. Staff will notify patrons of the estimated completion and pick up date after the object has been submitted.
Is the filament food safe? No. The filament is not food safe.
Where can I pick up my print? Patrons can select the pick-up option when completing the 3D print request at either of the two following branch locations: Main branch location on Central Blvd. Southmost Branch location on Southmost Rd.
